Notice: Increase in the de minimis threshold for overseas direct purchases from KRW 150,000 to USD 150
2015-12-01
For existing general customs clearance items (product price + international shipping fee), the duty-free limit was KRW 150,000.
It has been increased so that items are duty-free as long as the product price is USD 150 or less.
The hassle of checking product prices and weights every week is now gone.
Going forward, when purchasing general customs clearance items, they will be duty-free if the product price is USD 150 or less.
For the United States, you can calculate based on the net amount without separately applying the announced exchange rate.
For China, Germany, Japan, and other countries, please check using the customs exchange rate announced by the Korea Customs Service on Fridays.
EX) Examples of application
1) Food purchased in the U.S. $140 - Tax exempt
2) Functional cosmetics purchased in the U.S. $155 - Taxable (over $150)
3) Perfume 50ML purchased in Japan $145 - Tax exempt
4) Shoes purchased in Germany $155 - Taxable (over $150)
5) Toys purchased in China $149 - Tax exempt
