[Korea] Notice Regarding the Postal Workers' Union Strike Decision

2019-06-28
Hello,

As stated in the title, negotiations are underway between the postal workers' union and Korea Post regarding working conditions and related matters for postal parcel delivery.

Although the final result has not yet been confirmed, we are sending this advance notice in case the parties do not reach an agreement (strike). Please refer to the details below.

* Current status: Negotiations are in progress to reach an amicable agreement between management and labor at Korea Post.
* Date of final strike decision: Monday, July 1, 2019
* If no agreement is reached, a strike is expected to proceed after a certain period of compliance-based action.
* If a strike is decided, compliance-based work will be observed from July 2 to 8. (No parcel delivery on Saturday, July 6)

A general strike will begin on July 9. (Maintaining the legally required minimum staffing and mail delivery operations)

Even if a strike takes place, the law stipulates that delivery operations must be maintained with a minimum number of staff, so it does not appear that parcel services will stop entirely or that delivery will become impossible.

(It is expected that collection and dispatch at Incheon Airport will not be affected even if a strike occurs, and delivery may be delayed by about one day.)

We will provide an update again after confirming the result next Monday, when the strike decision will be made.

Thank you.
