Notice of Changes to Mandatory Personal Customs Clearance Code Requirements (Effective September 2)

2019-08-23
We are announcing that the implementation schedule for making the Personal Customs Clearance Code (or 8-digit date of birth) mandatory has been finalized.

Please refer to the information below to avoid customs clearance delays and other unnecessary delays.

Thank you.

1. The Personal Customs Clearance Code will also be required information for items eligible for simplified customs clearance.
(An 8-digit date of birth may also be used; example / 19920315. The first 6 digits of the resident registration number cannot be processed.)

2. The effective date is for goods brought in from September 2, 2019. (Based on the date the customs declaration list is submitted)

3. For items eligible for simplified customs clearance but without a Personal Customs Clearance Code, customs clearance will be put on hold (pending) until you provide the code.

Processing of cases where the Personal Customs Clearance Code (or date of birth) is not entered.

Items whose simplified customs clearance is on hold due to missing information will be checked separately and notified via KakaoTalk. You will need to provide the Personal Customs Clearance Code (or 8-digit date of birth).

Notes and request.

If verification of personal information is delayed for a significant amount of time, additional costs may be incurred, so please verify the information and reply as soon as possible.

(Such as warehouse fees due to storage of goods)

If the information you provide is found to be incorrect three or more times, measures such as changing the item from simplified customs clearance to an import declaration through a customs broker may be required, so please be careful when checking the information.

The Personal Customs Clearance Code is information registered with the Korea Customs Service, and each individual can also check their usage history through the Customs Service.

Accordingly, please report any illegal misuse of another person’s information. (Reports of illegal misuse have recently increased)
