[U.S.] [Important] Notice of Changes to Volumetric Weight Application Policy

2021-08-07
As previously announced, due to strengthened TSA security measures, general cargo packing types that cannot be screened (- Pressurized containers, including KCX AKE containers) cannot be shipped, and

Starting July 1, regulations have been changed so that the LD3 containers previously used by U.S.-bound shipping companies for air loading can no longer be used for air transport, and only pallets may be used.

As a result, U.S.-bound shipping companies are facing difficulties due to increased air freight costs. If Korean shipping companies for the U.S. route ship cargo using only pallets without LD3, they must pay 30–40% more in air freight than before.

In addition to the fact that, due to the TSA regulation change, airlines are now accepting only cargo that is palletized (height 80 inches or less) at 100% volumetric weight, U.S.-bound shipping companies are also being made to bear the volumetric weight burden for pallets used to transport cargo.

As a result, with air freight costs for U.S.-bound shipping companies increasing by more than 30%–40%, and with the added burden of labor costs and vehicle operation costs of having to go to the airport on Saturdays so that Friday cargo is not delayed even by a little, we have no choice but to change the volumetric weight policy.

We kindly ask for our customers' understanding.

** This is not an increase in air freight rates; it is only a change in the airline's volumetric weight calculation, so there will be no rate increase, only an increase in the volumetric weight calculation rate.

** We will provide a separate notice if there are any additional updates.

1. Effective date of the new volumetric weight policy: For shipments in the U.S. with weight measurements from August 16, 2021 onward

2. Changed volumetric weight application rate
