[Japan] Notice of Rule Change Regarding Dimensional Weight Application
2022-06-14
Hello,
We would like to inform you that the method for calculating air freight charges from Japan will change starting July 1.
Previously, shipments sent from the Japan Center were dispatched without measuring dimensional weight.
However, due to the recent increase in airline freight charges caused by the situation in Ukraine, and the burden of fuel surcharges driven by soaring fuel prices, it has become difficult to continue absorbing these costs.
As a result, we have had no choice but to change the method for calculating dimensional weight.
The new dimensional weight calculation method is based on IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations, using kilograms as the unit,
and applies the higher value between volumetric weight and actual weight.
Actual weight: the actual weight of the shipment including packaging (kg) Volumetric weight: weight converted from the shipment's volume at 6,000㎤ (cubic centimeters) per 1 kg (for inches, 366 cubic inches per 1 kg) Calculation method Volumetric
weight = Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Height (cm) ÷ 6,000 (cm3/kg)
(Round the final result to the nearest 0.5 kg) Example: For a shipment weighing 10 kg with dimensions of 40 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm, the volumetric weight is
calculated as "40 × 40 × 40 ÷ 6,000 = 10.6666... kg".
Please refer to the above, and we will continue doing our best to improve our service.
Summary) Starting July 1, dimensional weight will be applied at 100% to all shipments sent from the Japan Center to Korea,
and shipping charges will be calculated based on the higher of actual weight and dimensional weight.
